Allen County has some big decisions in their near future concerning plans to develop the properties surrounding the Allen County Regional Airport for industrial use. BG was engaged to do a massive study for infrastructure and utility development at the site in order to attract commercial and business entities to the area. The report included the investigation of services for potable water, wastewater, streets and roadways, electrical, natural gas and communications.
A presentation of the highlights of the report was given to the Commissioners at the meeting on Tuesday, March 1st, 2022.
Bruce Boettcher of BG told commissioners the report offered three main phases for future expansion including over 300 acres surrounding the South, East and West of the airport. Phase 1 was the main focus of the report, which included up to $15 million to develop the area to the west of the airport . The proximity of those site to U.S. 169 would be advantageous for industrial development.
"It could take a couple of years for infrastructure improvements to be completed. It would also take time for facilities to be built and outfitted for use," as reported by Vicki Moss with the Iola Register.
BG is grateful to Allen County and Thrive Allen County for the opportunity to serve the community and aid in the planning and development at the airport. In addition, we would like to thank Vicki for her reporting on this agenda item at the meeting. Get all the details and see her article here.
