The City of Horton was honored with well-deserved recognition for its recently completed Wastewater Treatment Facility project. The new facility replaced their 65-year-old treatment plant which had been failing to meet the permit limits set by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE). On March 29, 2023, at the KRWA Annual Conference’s Annual Banquet and Award Ceremony held at the Century II Convention Center in Wichita, City Administrator John Calhoon was presented with the Wastewater System of the Year award for the city.
The project was brought to fruition through collaborative efforts between Horton City Staff and BG Consultants. City Administrator John Calhoon and Operator Randy Mayfield worked closely with Project Manager Paul Owings and Project Engineer Abby Mills during project development and construction. BG provided comprehensive professional services including planning, funding acquisition, design, and construction administration for the $6.3 million project. AHRS Construction out of Bern, KS served as the general contractor for the project that took 13 months to complete construction.
Additional details about the project and the award are available on these linked pages.
The City of Horton and its constituents deserve our congratulations for receiving this prestigious award and we are honored and proud to have been a part of its success.
