City of Eudora Streetscape
The City of Eudora hired BG Consultants to design aesthetic, safety, and structural improvements in their downtown area. Completed in 2008, the project enhanced the overall appearance and functionality of downtown Eudora.
Both the stormwater and water systems were improved, providing better service to businesses and protecting the streets from flooding. Pavers, placed behind new curbs, visually distinguished pedestrian space from vehicular space. New street light fixtures better illuminated the downtown area while providing hardware to hang banners and electrical outlets to support seasonal decorations. Benches were placed through the downtown as invitations for pedestrians to stop, rest, and mingle. Bicycle racks were installed to encourage citizens to ride their bikes to the area, and modern trash receptacles were placed throughout the downtown to encourage cleanliness.
The project drew from various funding sources. The KDOT Transportation Enhancement program funded the streetscape improvements, while City funds were used for the waterline and storm sewer improvements. A combination of City and Douglas County funds backed the resurfacing of Main Street. At the conclusion of the project, downtown Eudora was transformed into a much more pleasing and inviting place for visitors and businesses.
