Baldwin City Safe Routes to School
Baldwin City, KS
United States
BG Consultants assisted Baldwin City with concept planning, project budgeting, grant application, design, bidding and construction phase services for a multi-site sidewalk improvement project to complete several looped connections for accessible sidewalk improvements along the City’s designated Safe Routes to School. Funding assistance was secured through the federally funded Transportation Alternatives program administered by the KDOT.
Design included a little more than 1 mile of sidewalk improvements through neighborhoods and school grounds. Connections were made to City Parks, the USD Middle School and High School campus, trail and sidewalk systems to the elementary and intermediate school campus, and connections to Baker University facilities. The project completed the loop of the Safe Routes around the community. Special considerations included the design of box culvert extensions, stormwater drainage accommodations, construction through existing developed neighborhoods, utility coordination and easement acquisition.
