Coffeyville US-166 and Willow Geometric Improvements
This project is located in Coffeyville, Kansas, on U.S. Highway 166. The highway serves as access to several homes and businesses located along the highway as well as acting as a major east-west highway in southeast Kansas.
This project was partially funded by the Kansas Department of Transportation through its Geometric Improvement Program. BG Consultants, Inc. was selected by the City of Coffeyville to design the project.
The project involved designing the addition of eastbound and westbound left-turn lanes on US-166. The project also included the following design elements: improving turning radii for semi-trucks, new drainage structures, a new traffic signal, and updated sidewalk ramps to comply with ADA. An effort was made to reduce access along the route to better comply with KDOT’s Access Management Policy. Phasing of traffic control was critical to maintaining current traffic flow patterns as well as maintaining access to the commercial businesses within the construction area.
