College Hill Preschool Improvements
Manhattan, KS
In April 2013, BG Consultants was engaged by the Manhattan-Ogden Unified School District 383 to evaluate the main facility of College Hill Preschool’s campus for physical and code related deficiencies. Investigations revealed that the aged facility was beyond its cost-effective usefulness. Our team also identified issues with the current code compliance and accessibility. Based on the findings of the assessment, the District chose to renovate the oldest and most historic portion of the building. The upgrades addressed issues concerning secure entry access and ADA accessibility. By moving the existing administration office into the original limestone building, administrative services were concentrated within the 100 year old school house.
The revised floor plan of the school revitalized the original grand entry of the school house, bringing it back into use. The addition of an ADA ramp and secure vestibule updated the facility to meet the required standards for schools in the district. An elevated platform office was removed to create a corridor with new ADA access to the playground without the need to enter a secondary space. The playground entry corridor was designed to be within sight-lines of the administration office, giving the administration office the best vantage point to all main areas of access into the school.
