Farrar Corporation Machining Facility
Manhattan, KS
The Farrar Corporation specializes in providing finish machined ductile iron castings and assemblies. When planning for their new facility in Manhattan, they contracted BG Consultants for a whole range of engineering and architectural services. The project was broken up into multiple phases.
Phase I of this project consisted of 35,000 square foot machine shop and office building. The machine shop had to be designed around the automated machine equipment for CNC turning, CNC milling, drilling, broaching, and gear cutting. Employee spaces include showers, a cafeteria, an administrative suite, a technical laboratory, and multipurpose spaces for training and conferences. Site improvement design included parking for employees, truck access, and the extension of all utilities, including stormwater design, sanitary sewer, water, gas, and electrical.
Phase II of the project saw the construction of a minor office expansion and a 20,000 square foot addition centralized around a steel heat treatment facility, which houses three heating furnaces and one cooling chamber for sub-critical annealing.
