Humboldt Water Treatment, Storage & Waterline Evaluation
Humboldt, KS
United States
In 2017, the City of Humboldt requested an engineering study of their existing water system, which includes a 1.1 MGD surface water treatment plant, three elevated water storage structures, and 138,000 FT of distribution main.
As part of the evaluation BG reformed the following tasks:
- Evaluated past, current, and future water usage and current water rights.
- Evaluated condition of the Intake structure and designed a chemical feed addition for zebra mussel control.
- Evaluated the operations and the condition of each component of the water treatment plant and made recommendations for improvements that would optimize the operation of the plant.
- Evaluated water storage capacity and condition.
- Evaluated existing documentation of the distribution system and up dated utility mapping to current conditions.
- Evaluated current O&M costs.
- Evaluated the potential for utilizing regional water supply sources.
BG provided alternatives and recommendations for a capital improvement plan, which included an opinion of probable cost for the various recommended improvements to the entire system.
