KSU Parking Lot Design, Lots A-17 & B-18
As part of BG Consultants’ continuing relationship with Kansas State University, our engineers were hired to provide improvement plans for two parking lots on campus. Parking lot A-17, at the intersection of Claflin Road and Mid-Campus Drive, was in poor condition and needed to be replaced. To provide an economical design, the existing millings were scarified and re-compacted to provide a solid base. The southeast corner of the lot was replaced with six inches of reinforced concrete pavement. To finish the project, new sections of curb and gutter were constructed in certain areas, and the entire parking lot was restriped.
Parking lot B-18, west of the Child Development Center on Serum Plant Road, was also deficient and in need of replacement. Just as in lot A-17, the millings were scarified and re-compacted. Sections of the lot were paved with asphalt and others of concrete. Additionally, BG Consultants made adjustments to improve drainage on the site. The existing curb and gutter remained at the entrance location, but were redesigned around the remaining perimeter of the lot. An ADA ramp and sidewalk was constructed to tie into the existing sidewalk on the southeast side of the parking lot. BG also provided designs to restripe the lot and ensure fire accessibility and good traffic circulation.
