This project included the design of approximately $6.5 million in street, storm sewer, waterline and sanitary sewer force main improvements for the City of Lawrence. Queens Road had experienced significant urban residential development surrounding the corridor, including residential subdivisions and a number of large apartment complexes. The project required close coordination with development plans for the adjacent development projects. Infrastructure improvements included the design of a traffic signal controlled intersection at the intersection of 6th Street/Queens Road, a roundabout at the intersection of 6th Street/Overland Drive, on-street bicycle amenities with a raised median for landscaping and access control, shared-use path and sidewalk amenities to connect to the numerous surrounding residential uses, and coordination with utility companies to minimize impacts to their infrastructure.
