Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine East Clinic
Manhattan, KS
BG Consultants, Inc. led the design of a new Sports Medicine facility with Doctors James McAtee and Trevor Gaskill. The goal of the integrated facility is to provide comprehensive care bridging rehabilitative physical therapy and return to sport specific performance. The facility provides care to athletes of all ages and abilities while serving as an extension to the main building of the Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine clinic in central Manhattan. This new branch was constructed in Pottawatomie County to serve a growing need for services on the east side of Manhattan. Situated in the newly developed Heritage West complex, the new clinic is a modern celebration of women’s health care facilities.
The 8,176 sf outpatient sports medicine clinic has exterior finishes in insulated metal panel, limestone or brick. Inside spaces include a high-volume 3500 sf sport performance area for patient evaluation and performance, exercise area, open treatment area and 4 physical therapy exam rooms. There are also 3 accessible restrooms, one with shower, and an open treatment and sport performance area with a curtain divider, and administrative support. Two kitchenettes were provided for general upkeep for therapy supplies as well as a dedicated Mechanical/Custodial/Storage/Laundry.
The sport performance area is equipped with ½ basketball court, volleyball court, and football yard markings to facilitate therapy. The clerestory for the sports performance is 32’ high and utilized Okalux glazing to diffuse the sunlight and brighten the interior. Flooring is either carpet in exam rooms, under treatment tables, waiting, reception, and office and rubber in the sport performance and in circulation areas. The feature wall of the waiting room is ModularArts interlocking rock in Chisley Deluxe surrounded by windows. The same interlocking rock is featured in the reception desk design.
The space was designed with a modern industrial aesthetic with a comfortable reception area accented by use of Modulararts interlocking rock panels that evoke a reference to the beauty of movement resulting from modern sports medicine.
