South Leavenworth Waterline Improvements

Leavenworth, KS

In 2004, the Leavenworth Water Department hired BG Consultants to complete a preliminary design report and prepare construction plans for the installation of a water transmission line extending from the City of Leavenworth south into Leavenworth County.

For the preliminary report, BG engineers analyzed hydraulics, incorporated future demands, and made recommendations for water main sizing for a nine-mile, large diameter water distribution main from Leavenworth to Basehor.

BG’s team developed design plans and bidding documents for the new main. Leavenworth Water bid the installations for Phase I of the project, which called for 8,347 feet of variably sized DIP waterline improvements. As a cost-saving measure, Leavenworth Water pre-purchased all materials and bid the installation of the waterline only.

Phase I, completed in 2006, provided connections to Lan-Del Water, Leavenworth County Rural Water District No. 1 and No. 8, and the Suburban Water District. The aim of this expansion was to guarantee the Leavenworth Water Department’s financial future in the rapidly growing areas between Leavenworth and the greater Kansas City area.
