BG Consultants contracted with the City of Tonganoxie to improve the intersections of US-24/40 at Main Street and US-24/40 at Laming Road. BG’s team worked closely with the City and contractors to obtain right-of-ways and easements and to plan construction that would minimize interference with local businesses. Coordination with KDOT was also important to the project’s success, as it was funded by KDOT’s Access Management Construction Geometric Improvement program. BG provided all surveying, transportation design, and construction observation services necessary to prepare construction plans in accordance with KDOT design requirements.

The project included the addition of right-turn lanes on US-24/40 at Main Street, reconstruction of Main Street to a 3-lane cross section, storm sewer improvements, and traffic signal design.  The project also included the design and construction of a southbound right turn lane on Laming Road at US-24/40. The geometric and signal improvements at both intersections enhanced traffic operations and public safety.
